Cohart Connect (Multi-Currency Payouts)
For sellers who prefer to receive payouts in their local currency, we offer Cohart Connect. This is an optional but recommended setup that enables multi-currency listings, faster payouts, and direct bank transfers via Stripe.
It is used by sellers who want to list artworks and receive payouts in their local currency or currencies.
How It Works
- Connect your bank account in the Financial Accounts dashboard
- You can connect as many bank accounts as you like
- Your connected account (or chosen account) sets your default payout currency
- You list artworks in that currency
- Buyers can pay in any currency
- Cohart Connect automatically handles conversion
- You receive payouts in your connected bank account currency
- You are only responsible for your Cohart platform fee (2.5%–5% depending on your Cohart plan or fair rate)
Example:
If your account is connected in EUR, you’ll receive EUR — even if the buyer pays in AUD.
What Changes with Cohart Connect
Once connected:
- Payouts are sent directly to your bank via Stripe
- Payout timing is faster (typically 1–3 days)
- You can manage payouts and refunds directly in Stripe
- W-9 / W-8 forms are not required
- You can upload artworks in your connected currencies
Important: Once connected, you can only list artwork prices in the currency tied to your connected account(s). Buyers can still view and pay in their own currency — conversion happens automatically.
Connecting Multiple Bank Accounts
You can connect multiple currency accounts (ex. EUR, USD, and AUD).
- If a matching currency account exists, the payout goes to that account by default
- If not, the payout goes to your chosen default account
Examples:
- You set your default account to AUD
- Buyer pays in EUR → payout goes to your EUR account
- Buyer pays in USD → payout goes to your USD account
- Buyer pays in CHF → payout goes to your default account (AUD) if no CHF account is connected
If You Do Not Use Cohart Connect
We can still issue payouts via ACH bank transfer to U.S. and global bank accounts but:
-
- All sales default to USD
- Payouts follow the standard flow (bank details + W form)
- Timing is typically 5–10 business days
- Multi-currency features are not available

Using the Cohart Business App (In-Person Sales)
To learn more, visit Cohart In-Person Sales Processing Tools.
The Cohart Business App is the primary tool for processing sales at fairs.
Accept payments directly on your phone — no hardware required. This is the easiest and most flexible way to sell at the fair, especially if your inventory isn’t uploaded yet. With Tap-to-Pay, your phone becomes a card reader and buyers can simply tap their card to complete a purchase.
Requirements for Multi-Currency Feature on Tap-to-Pay
Multi-currency Tap is available when you’ve completed Cohart Connect and is designed for faster payouts and multi-currency support.
Requirements:
- Cohart Connect must be completed
- Tap-to-Pay only works in supported currencies - view the list
Using Business Tap-to-Pay in your local currency:
For currencies that are not supported, you can still use the tool but you have to input the card details. Tap-to-Pay will not be available but you can still process payments via manual card entry.
Supported Currency Example (Tap-to-Pay)
A gallery connects a EUR account:
-
- Lists artworks in EUR
- Processes Tap-to-Pay in EUR (supported currency)
- Buyer taps card on phone
- Payout arrives in EUR (1–3 days)
Unsupported Currency Example (Hong Kong)
A Hong Kong gallery connects a HKD account:
- Lists artwork in HKD
- Tap-to-Pay in HKD is not a supported Tap currency but they can still accept payments via card entry in the app
- Payout arrives in HKD (1–3 days)
FAQs
Can I still receive payouts if I don’t or can't use Cohart Connect?
Yes — you can continue using our standard payout process.
- Payouts are sent after the fair ends
- Funds typically arrive within 5–10 business days
- You’ll receive an itemized breakdown with one bulk payout
- We’ll just need your bank details and a W-9 (U.S.) or W-8BEN (international) to release funds
If your currency isn’t supported by Cohart Connect or you’d rather stick with the standard method, just let us know (email hello@cohart.com) and we’ll send over exactly what we need to release your payout.
Can I sell in USD at a U.S. fair if my account is set up in another currency?
If you’re using Cohart Connect, your pricing currency is tied to the bank account you’ve connected. For example, if your account is connected in NZD, your listings will appear in NZD in the app.
If you’d like to sell in USD at a U.S. fair, you have two options:
Option 1: Keep Cohart Connect
- You can still accept payments from buyers in USD
- Payments will be automatically converted before reaching your bank account
- You’ll enter prices in your connected currency (e.g. NZD) and they will reflect publicly in this currency
Option 2: Switch to standard payouts
- You can list and charge directly in USD
- You’ll need to disconnect Cohart Connect
- We’ll collect your bank details and a W-8/W-9 form to set up payouts
- Payouts are sent after the fair (typically 5–10 business days), a bit longer than Cohart Connect
Note: If you’ve already connected Cohart Connect, you can unlink it at any time and switch to the standard payout setup.
Which should I use?
- Use Cohart Connect if you want faster payouts and to show pricing and receive funds in your local currency
- Use standard payouts if you want to price and sell in USD during the fair and you don't have a US bank account
Why can’t I link a USD account when selecting a European country (ex. Italy)?
Cohart uses Stripe as our payment processor, and there are currently regulatory limitations in certain European countries that restrict linking USD accounts for locally registered entities. For example, if your gallery is based in Italy, the system will default to EUR and you won’t be able to select USD at this time — even if your bank supports multiple currencies.
That said, you can still:
- List your artworks in EUR
- Accept payments from buyers in USD (or other currencies)
- Receive payouts accordingly through your connected account
We’re actively working with Stripe on this, and expanded support is expected in a future update.
